Air Conditioning Costs Manageable

1) If you are buying a window air conditioning unit, base its size according to the size of the room.

An air conditioning unit which is bigger than the size of the room will work harder and cost you more.

2) Make sure the seasonal efficiency ratio is more than fourteen in warmer climates. A system which is less efficient will obviously cost you more. If you are living in a hot climate though high-efficiency unit costs more, it will pay for itself in the coming years by reduced electric bills.

3) A regular maintenance work on your air conditioning unit should be performed. During the cooling season try to replace the filter monthly and have a service done by certified professionals at the beginning of each cooling season.

4) A cooling system which has become old is not performing efficiently and thus increases your energy cost.

So if you are having an old air conditioning system whose seasonal Energy efficiency ratio rating is less than eight it is advisable to replace it with a more energy efficient system and I am sure you would be able to cover the cost in few years

5) Try installing programmable thermostat so that you can vary the temperature according to the need for example if  you are going to be out for some time set it at a higher degree than when you are at home.

6) Your air conditioning condenser should be located in a shady spot and there should be enough room to dispose of the heated air  it removes from your house.

7) Try to plant trees and shrubs around your house to help reduce the heat of the sun, a must on the west and south direction of your house. This step can reduce your cooling costs by upto thirty percent.

Install awning on the windows on the sunny side of your house.

9) Any air leaks in your house should be sealed which will reduce your air conditioning costs as well as heating costs.

10)  Install or fit a ceiling fan and supplement it for air conditioning. Use the ceiling fan if the situation does not demand the use of air conditioning. If it is hot enough which warrants air conditioning use the ceiling fans at the same time which permits you to raise the temperature settings by some degrees. This means that you are reducing your energy costs.

11)  Remember the darker the color of your house the more heat it will absorb. So color the exterior of your house with a light color.

12)  Much of the heat is absorbed through the roof, so be sure that your attic is properly ventilated. A ridge vent or an attic fan can to a great extent reduce your cooling costs

13)  Put reflective window tint to reduce the amount of heat absorbed.

14)  Rooms that are not used should be closed and the cooling ducts to those rooms should be closed.

15)  Be sure that the cool air coming from your air conditioning is not obstructed by anything like furniture.

16)  Lights produce heat  so turn off lights when not in use which makes your air conditioning iunt work better

17)  Turn off your computer and other thing s when not in use to get a better result from your air  conditioning system.
